I feel that this part of our society has not been addressed. I'm not looking for inquiries because each one of us who was educated by one of the above knows of somebody who was abused by beating, mental torture and so on. So let us stand up and say we've had enough of church and state 2009, because I know I have. They talk of reform but to me it’s just talk. We need to pull the roots of these two organizations and start afresh. And that also means the other political parties as they are not much better.

2 & 3 Sam and Nula (collage)
Sam and Nula are Samuel Beckett and Nula Costello. Nula was from Tuam and was an aunt of mine. She met Sam in Paris through James Joyce's daughter Lucia .She was an important part of Sam's life.
James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist to me shows what the education system in this country has done to many a person, me being one of them, and Joyce being one of them also, are you?. .
I feel that a lot of people were affected by the Christian Brothers ,the nuns and priests. So when they say to me “they weren't all bad” I say, the odd one was good.

The purpose of this exhibition is to examine our short history as a Republic. Looking at the year 2009 we are not in a very good place .
I believe if we are to have new beginnings we must get rid of the church as we know it, politics as we know it and banking as we know it, if we are to have any hope for the future. New Beginnings is that hope for me, .
